Word of Mouth for a Service Business: The Remarkable Shortcut

It can be tough to get word of mouth for a service business.

Want some?

Be more remarkable.

Because if your clients remark about you to others, and feed your business via word of mouth advertising, you're be in a good place, no?

One way is to take a tip from Walt Disney: “What ever you do, do it well. Do it so well that when people see you do it they will want to come back and see you do it again and they will want to bring others and show them how well you do what you do.”

Now. Apart from DOING what you do remarkably well ...

... you can also DELIVER it remarkably well.

Case in point: This box from Fab.

word of mouth for a service business
Inside was a birthday gift. The gift itself (a waterproof shower notepad) was remarkable. But it was made more so by the box, thanks to the cute design and clever messages printed on it. I still have it, 4 years later.

Stuck on how to do this?

Here are 3 ideas to DELIVER remarkably well -- and get more word of mouth for your service business:

1) Deliver FAST. Nothing gets there as fast, reliably, and with as much attention-grabbing urgency as a FedEx Letter. Nothing.

2) Deliver in a remarkable PACKAGE. Example: Man Crates, which bills itself as "Awesome gifts for guys packed in wooden crates that you open with the included crowbar." Everybody who gets one tells somebody else. The gifts inside are cool, but it's opening a Man Crate that draws a crowd. It's happened to me and to the clients I send them to. Remarkable.

3) Deliver EXTRAS. Give your clients a surprise gift, like a signed book, a year of free tech support, a gift certificate to their favorite store, or chocolate.

Like everything I write in these emails, I follow my own advice.

Example: I got this email two days ago from Grant, a member of my Marketing Multipliers Club: "Just received your monthly marketing package this morning (loved the salted caramel chocolate, it lasted about 12 seconds before I ate it.)"

Who said word of mouth for a service business was so hard?
